Wyndham residents will soon have access to improved community spaces, with a $4.15 million investment under the first $40 million round of the Andrews Labor Government’s Interface Growth Fund.

Three projects in Wyndham will receive grants under the Fund, with $1.5 million allocated for the redevelopment of the Werribee Football Club’s home.

The upgrade to Chirnside Park Stadium will allow the Club to build on existing work being done with local young people and those from diverse backgrounds, as well as ensuring amenities for both male and female players and umpires are available.

A further $1.5 million has been allocated to build the Wyndham Aboriginal Community Centre, providing a space for community events, strengthening cultural development and facilitating better co-ordination of services for local Aboriginal people.

Additionally, $1.15 million will go to the Community Connections project to create a cycling and pedestrian network that enhances access to community spaces, education and employment.

Announcing the funding today, Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins said the Labor Government’s first investment under the Interface Growth Fund had secured a total of $102 million across Melbourne’s ten Interface Council areas.

Recognising the growing needs of communities in Melbourne’s rapidly expanding outer suburbs, the Fund was delivered as part of the Labor Government’s 2015-16 Victorian Budget.

The 10 Interface Councils are Cardinia, Casey, Hume, Melton, Mitchell, Mornington Peninsula, Nillumbik, Whittlesea, Wyndham and Yarra Ranges.

A second round of the Interface Growth Fund will commence shortly.
