WERRIBEE BENEFITS FROM $9 MILLION BOOST FOR CFA VOLUNTEER EQUIPMENT
CFA volunteers in the Werribee electorate will share in more than $9.3 million in grants for the equipment, trucks, and facilities they need to keep Victorians safe.
The Andrews Labor Government today announced the recipients of the 2016-17 Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program.
Under the program, the government commits $2 for every $1 raised by volunteer groups to help them buy additional trucks, tankers, watercraft and trailers, and carry out minor facility upgrades.
Member for Werribee, Tim Pallas said local Wyndham Vale CFA is among the recipients.
The Wyndham CFA received $8,150 for a new thermal imaging camera.
The $9.3 million package also includes more than $2.8 million for a state-wide initiative to improve the safety and wellbeing of volunteer firefighters.
The CFA will use these funds to replace ageing equipment, provide specialist cool climate clothing, improve work amenities and boost support for CFA Coast Guard Brigades.
The Victorian State Emergency Service, Life Saving Victoria and Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association were among the other organisations to receive grants under the almost $13 million program.
In addition to the VESEP program the Labor Government has invested tens of millions of dollars since it came to government in new CFA trucks, station rebuilds and upgrades, and new training facilities.
