Record jobs growth continues in Victoria, with almost a quarter of a million jobs created in the state since the Andrew’s Labor Government took office.

Data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) shows 246,400 jobs have been created in Victoria since November 2014, more than 60 per cent of which were full-time.

The data also shows 118,800 new Victorian jobs were created in the year to May 2017 – more than any other state and half of all jobs created in Australia during that period.

In the month of May alone, an additional 6,900 Victorians found work.

The participation rate, a measure of how many people are employed or seeking employment, remained at a record high of 66.1 per cent in the month – up from 64.9 per cent at the same time last year.

The report follows recent ABS National Accounts data which confirmed that in the six months to March 2017, growth in Victoria’s state final demand was the strongest it has been since the onset of the Global Financial Crisis.
