LOCAL WOMEN OFFERED A BOOST TO CHANGE THE GAME

Applications are now open for the Victorian Government’s game changing $220,000 women in sport leadership scholarships.

The Change Our Game Scholarship Program creates opportunities for women to pursue their leadership and development in the sporting and active recreation industry.

Member for Werribee Tim Pallas said that local clubs and sporting bodies are encouraged to identify emerging female leaders within their sporting community for the scholarship program.

Scholarships range in value from $2,000 to $10,000 and applications are made through State Sporting Bodies, Local Government Authorities and Regional Sports Assemblies.

The Change Our Game Scholarship Program highlights the State Government’s commitment to increase the number of women and girls participating in sport and active recreation.

Since establishing the first Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, the Government is taking action to assist more women and girls to earn sport leadership roles across all levels of the Victorian sport and active recreation sector.

Women and girls are signing up to play local sport in record numbers across Victoria, but many facilities were outdated, poor or didn’t even exist.

So far, we have funded more than 100 projects from the $14 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund – Female Friendly Facilities category.

The fund has delivered almost $10 million towards $60 million worth of projects across the state, helping more than 200 clubs transform ageing facilities and provide more opportunities for women and girls to play the sports they love.

The government is also committed to securing the biggest events in women’s sport, recently announcing that the T20 World Cup Final will be played at the MCG on Internationals Women’s Day 2020.
