Students from across Werribee will get their hands on 3D printers, Oculus virtual reality devices and iPad-driven robots, as part of this year’s Education Week.

Over the next week Werribee schools will also open their doors to the local community to showcase how they are helping Victorian children reach their potential.

Technology is the focus of Education Week this year, with events in schools across Victoria, including:

• Maker Events, featuring hands-on workshops focusing on technology like robots, 3D printers, wearable technology, video games, drones and electronic building blocks called ‘little bits’
• Cinema classroom sessions at ACMI, where students can learn about the design and production of games, animation and live-action films
• The chance for students to experience a day in the life of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in a life-sized plane simulator, complete with medical equipment and lessons on how to land a plane and rescue a patient.

The Andrews Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student has the opportunity of a great education, no matter their circumstances or location.

Technology has an important role to play in the Education State, ensuring students are well-rounded, critical thinkers and able to use the technology of the future.

Further support for the Education State was included in this year’s budget, with an unprecedented $1.1 billion investment in school infrastructure, including a record $924 million for capital works and an extra $200 million for maintenance.

Education Week is now in its 72nd year and runs from 15-21 May.
