CALLTO INVEST IN WYNDHAM’S ROADS
Tim Pallas, the Member for Tarneit and John Eren, the Member for Lara have called on the Baillieu Government to invest in Wyndham’s roads at a community rally yesterday.
The rally was organised by local community members concerned about safety and congestion on local arterial roads, including Ballan Road as well as those highlighted in a recent City of Wyndham report, to galvanise support for improving the road infrastructure in the City of Wyndham.
Addressing a crowd over 50 people strong, Mr Eren urged the State Government to dump development without infrastructure.
Mr Pallas said that the Review of 2011 Traffic Volumes in Wyndham tells us what we already know, that Wyndham’s roads are at capacity.
“Investment in infrastructure needs to keep pace with growth in our community…the State Government must support Wyndham with the infrastructure it needs and deserves as the fastest growing municipality in the state of Victoria.”
“That no new roads identified as operating at capacity have been upgraded and no new capital spending on Wyndham’s arterial road network by the State Government had occurred since 2010,” Mr Pallas noted.
Mr Pallas and Mr Eren launched a petition at the rally drawing the State Government’s attention to the Review of 2011 Traffic Volumes in Wyndham and highlighting that a number of arterials in Wyndham are at, or nearing capacity, as well as road safety implications.
The petition calls on the State Government to invest in arterial roads in Wyndham, as well as reviewing and updating the Outer Western Suburbs Transport Strategy to reflect the needs of the Wyndham Community.
Both stressed the importance of grassroots community involvement in campaigning for investment in road infrastructure.
“Everyone has to be part of the solution,” said Mr Pallas.
