STUMPING UP FOR CRICKET IN WERRIBEE
Tomorrow’s local cricket stars will soon be enjoying better facilities at Warringa Reserve, Hoppers Crossing, with the announcement of funding through the Community Cricket Program – Community Facilities stream.
Member for Werribee Tim Pallas today announced $60,000 funding to upgrade facilities at Warringa Reserve.
The funding will enable Wyndham City Council to install a new automatic irrigation system and deliver infrastructure suitable to accommodate participants with a disability.
The project is one of 15 across the state to share in $1.4 million from the fund.
With over 235,000 registered cricket participants across the state for 2019-2020, Victoria is the national home of cricket. That number is expected to rise this summer thanks to Australia’s inspirational win at the recent 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final at the home of cricket the MCG.
That’s why the Victorian Government is getting on with modernising cricket facilities so clubs and communities can cater for even more Victorians, particularly women and girls keen to be involved in cricket.
This initiative is part of the Government’s commitment to sport and active recreation by developing high quality, accessible community infrastructure that encourages all Victorians to get out there and get active.
Victorian Government is also encouraging Victorians to stay active at home with the new Get Active Victoria platform that aims to motivate Victorians to move more, every day. For more information visit www.getactive.vic.gov.au
The fund is part of over $915 million government investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure, since 2014.
