HELPING PEOPLE IN WERRIBEE ELECTORATE GET INTO THEIR FIRST HOME
The Andrews Labor Government is making it easier and fairer for Victorians to get into their first home, with the Homes for Victorians package helping hundreds of people across Victoria in only the first six months of the package.
Announced last year, the Homes for Victorian package abolished stamp duty for first home buyers purchasing new and existing homes up to $600,000, and discounted stamp duty up to $750,000.
In the six-month period between 1 July and 31 December 2017, 726 first home buyers in Wyndham paid no stamp duty, the highest number in Victoria. A further 153 first home buyers paid reduced stamp duty in the same period.
On average, first home buyers across Victoria will be around $8,000 better off, with some buyers more than $15,000 better off.
In addition to the stamp duty savings, the government has doubled the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) to Victorians building their first home in regional Victoria.
The changes from the Labor Government are making it easier for young people in regional Victoria to build and live in their own community, as well as boosting local construction jobs and development.
The increased grant is available to first home buyers building new homes valued up to $750,000.
