The Andrews Labor Government is one step closer to unlocking East Werribee’s potential with the opening of new ramps on the Princes Freeway and a new bridge at the Sneydes Road interchange.

Treasurer and Member for Werribee Tim Pallas was onsite today, marking the major milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the bridge.

The $45 million Sneydes Road interchange upgrade will transform road access to the East Werribee Employment Precinct which has been identified as a major future jobs hub.

The opening of the new Sneydes Road bridge and northern ramps will also provide new opportunities for Wyndham motorists to travel to and from Melbourne.

The Sneydes Road interchange will also reduce pressure on nearby roads including Palmers Road, Forsyth Road and Point Cook Road by providing additional access to the Princes Freeway.

A shared user path has been built across the new bridge, and extends along the upgraded Sneydes Road with greater access to the Federation Trail near Hoppers Lane.

These improvements include widening the intersection with additional turning lanes and new pedestrian crossings for easier community access to schools, medical facilities and the Hoppers Crossing train station.

New traffic lights have also been installed at Sneydes Road and Hoppers Lane intersection, to help with efficient traffic flow to and from the Sneydes Road interchange.

Geelong-bound ramps at the Sneydes Road interchange are due to be completed by the end of 2016 to create a full-diamond interchange linking Melbourne, Werribee and Geelong.

The Government has invested $71 million to upgrade the roads in and around the East Werribee precinct, allowing for easier access to jobs, services, schools and public transport.

Other recently completed works include the widening of Sneydes Road and the upgrade of two Princes Highway intersections, improving safety and access to nearby education and medical facilities and public transport.

These roadworks will kick-start the Government’s long-term vision for East Werribee to be a National Employment Cluster that supports more than 58,000 jobs.

The 775-hectare precinct consists of the largest undeveloped surplus State Government land in metropolitan Melbourne, which includes a 400-hectare site known as the East Werribee Major Development Parcel.
