TIM PALLAS AT OPENING OF NEW DRUG AND ALCOHOL REHAB CENTRE IN HOPPERS CROSSING
Local Member for Werribee, Tim Pallas MP attended the opening of a new drug and
alcohol treatment centre in Hoppers Crossing last Friday 13. The centre is a long
stay, supportive home for up to 12 disadvantaged residents seeking assistance
with addiction related issues.
Mr Pallas said that he was very pleased to see more non-governmental bodies contributing
to provide healthcare services in the Wyndham area. Mr Pallas said there has
been an increase in the number of drug and alcohol related ambulance call outs
in recent years, particularly with substances such as ice and alcohol.
The estiny Transformations centre aims to assist patients by providing a holistic
and supportive community atmosphere with an aim of long term rehabilitation. Mr
Pallas said the centre was an example of how communities working together can assist
those less privileged in improving their lives.
Mr Pallas said that he was pleased to see treatment methods that aim to address
not only the addiction but the underlying and associated issues that are also
problematic.
In Mr Pallas’ speech he drew attention to the devastating and increasing effects of
substance abuse in the Wyndham area. He also commented on Labor’s Ice Taskforce
plan, saying that it was proof of Labor’s strong commitment to addressing
substance abuse issues.
Quotes attributable to Mr Pallas:
“Addiction related issues are deeply
damaging to the individual and the community. As a local Member and as member of the Andrews Government I welcome organisations that work to assist the community in dealing with addiction issues.”
“I am delighted as a local Member to see community organisations taking the initiative in tackling such an important issue. We have already made important steps with our Ice Action Taskforce and we will continue to look after the vulnerable in our community.”
