INTERVENING EARLY TO HELP VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN WERRIBEE
Member for Werribee Tim Pallas announced the Victorian Government is investing to intervene earlier so that vulnerable families and children in Werribee are better supported to stay together.
The Victorian Government announced $29.2 million in the 2017-18 Budget for Child FIRST and integrated family services to work with more than 2000 families at risk of becoming involved with child protection or out-of-home care.
Tim Pallas said about $176,000 would go to Anglicare to support its Child FIRST program in the region, with a further $1,418,000 for family services providers across the Western region.
The funding also incorporates $5.1 million to trial and evaluate evidence-based programs that improve family capability and child safety.
The latest investment will help to identify families at risk earlier and connect them with the right support services.
A record $1.9 billion is being invested across Victoria to end family violence, as announced in the 2017-18 State Budget.
This funding will be used to establish 17 support and safety hubs across the state, deliver after-hours crisis support, counselling and therapy for victims of family violence, and develop a 10-year industry plan.
The Victorian Government also committed $161 million further strengthen the children, youth and families system to respond to growing demand and to intervene earlier with families who are at risk.
