FREE GLASSES FOR KIDS IN WERRIBEE SCHOOLS
Primary school students in Werribee schools are receiving free vision screenings and if needed, further testing and glasses, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Werribee Tim Pallas today presented students at Woodville Primary School with some of their first ever glasses to address vision impairment issues.
Children with undiagnosed vision problems often find it hard to concentrate at school, which can affect their learning capabilities if left unaddressed.
The Glasses for Kids program helps alleviate this problem by providing an onsite service to children at their school to address vision impairments in children who otherwise may have gone undiagnosed. More than 40,000 Prep to Year 3 students at 340 schools have been invited to participate in the program which is delivered by State Schools’ Relief.
The Victorian Government has invested $1.3 million to extend the Glasses for Kids program. This builds on the $800,000 the Victorian Government has already provided for this program. The program has offered free vision screening, follow up eye testing and glasses for 21,821 students at 358 schools since the program started in 2015.
During this time, 2,633 students have received free glasses. Providing the Glasses for Kids program is about putting Victorian students and their families first to make sure every child has access to a great school and the opportunity to succeed in life.
